EUYO, esos símbolos que no deberían nunca desaparecer.

La Joven Orquesta de la Unión Europea (EUYO) acaba de anunciar mediante un comunicado público, el año en el que se cumplen 40 desde su creación como una de las mejores embajadoras culturales de la UE, que a partir de septiembre de 2016 cesará sus actividades debido a la falta de fondos procedentes de la Unión Europea.

La joven orquesta de élite, fundada en su día por Claudio Abbado, ya no cuenta con el total apoyo económico de la UE que hasta ahora ha sido su único sustento.
En el año 2014, año del fallecimiento del gran maestro italiano Claudio Abbado, se produjo un cambio en la política de financiación cultural de la UE que provocó una crisis administrativa que ha desembocado en la actual situación de práctica desaparición.
La European Union Youth Orchestra fue informada el 15 de abril 2016 de que la asociación que la soporta ya no recibiría financiación de la Unión Europea. Desde entonces, la orquesta ha estado en contacto regular con la UE para tratar de encontrar financiación alternativa. En ausencia de la total financiación de la UE se dejará de operar el 1 de septiembre. La noticia ha caído como un jarro de agua fría en el contexto musical europeo, en un campo, el de la música, que está padeciendo una de las crisis más preocupantes y profundas de los últimos años.
Ante un futuro incierto cabe señalar que las instituciones musicales deben apremiarse a buscar situaciones de menos dependencia económica y de más capacidad de generar sus propios medios de subsistencia. Músicos de toda Europa ya están mostrando su preocupación por la noticia en las redes sociales.

We are beginning a campaign to try to help safeguard a sustainable future of the European Union Youth Orchestra. If you would like to contribute to this campaign there are several ways to do so.
Firstly, you can write to the European Union to express your support for the EUYO and to request that Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament and Honorary President of the EUYO, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport ensure adequate funding for the continuation of the Orchestra.
