David
David Toub (b. 1961, Newark, NJ) is largely self-taught, his only formal composition education consisting of attending music school (Mannes College of Music; Juilliard Pre-College Division) during weekends while in public high school.
He received his AB and MD degrees from the University of Chicago and a MBA from Drexel University. Formally a practicing gynecologic surgeon, he currently is the Medical Director of a medical device startup (Gynesonics) in Silicon Valley. His music is freely available for download through his music site (http://dbtmusic.wordpress.com), and has been heard on radio programs such as Music from Other Minds on KALW-FM and Classical Discoveries on WPRB-FM.
Toub’s music has been increasingly performed, including performances by the Diverse Instrument Ensemble, the percussionists Bill Solomon and Mike Lunoe, the San Diego New Music/NOISE Ensemble, the pianists Stephane Ginsburgh and Nicolas Horvath and the Russian cellist Maxim Zolotarenko.
Several works have been commercially recorded, including three albums on the OgreOgress label, one consisting entirely of his works for electronic organ, one that includes the string quartet mf, and another album that includes the piece dharmachakramudra for viola, cello and vibraphone. He lives in Wyncote, Pennsylvania with his wife and two children.
